Found my dad's old GTA San Andreas cheat sheet from 2005
Went through a box of my old stuff last weekend at my parents place. Found a crumpled notebook page with all the San Andreas cheat codes written in my dad's handwriting. He used to help me do the flying car cheat back when I was 10. I tried typing them into my PS5 version just for laughs and half of them still worked. The tank spawning one was off by one button but close enough. Makes me wonder why modern games even bother patching cheats out. My nephew saw me doing it and asked what I was hacking. Had to explain there used to be a time when beating the whole game was optional and just messing around was the point. Am I the only one who thinks removing cheat codes took something away from games?

Grabbed my old Xbox out of storage last month and fired up some San Andreas just to hear that music truck cheat. My buddy's kid was amazed I didn't need internet for it, just a phone number in my head. They really don't make games like that anymore, where breaking the physics was half the fun.

Gotta push back a little here. Those old cheats were just novelty tricks that got old after five minutes, not something that actually added to the depth of the game. Modern open world games have way more engaging physics and systems to mess with compared to just spawning a tank and causing chaos until you get bored. Kids these days have access to games that let them build their own worlds or solve complex puzzles, which is a lot more rewarding than remembering a number to make cars fly around. Are you sure it's not just nostalgia talking, because the actual gameplay loop of San Andreas feels pretty dated now?

Wait, did anyone else have a friend who took those cheats way too seriously? My buddy Mike back in high school memorized ALL of them, not just the fun ones. He had this whole system, he'd write them in a tiny notebook and keep it hidden in his sock drawer. One time we were at his place and he spent like 20 minutes trying to get the flying car cheat to work on the PS3 version, getting frustrated because Rockstar changed one button. He finally got it and just sat there for an hour flying around, not even doing missions. It was like he was proving a point that the cheat was still part of the game's soul, not just some trick to skip content.
