Hot take: GoldenEye 64 for multiplayer was actually terrible

I finally dug out my N64 last weekend after everyone kept saying how 'legendary' the multiplayer was, and I spent a solid 3 hours getting shot through walls and dealing with screen look that gave me a headache. Has anyone else actually gone back and tried playing it recently, or is everyone just riding nostalgia?

My buddy tried this same thing last month, swears up and down he remembers the multiplayer being this perfect party game. Called me after two hours saying he felt like he was gonna throw up from the screen jitter and asked if I still had my copy so we could try together. I told him hell no, I already know better. He insisted it was just "old tv lag" so he hooked it up to a CRT and everything. Still looked and played like garbage with everyone sliding around like they're on ice.

People are definitely riding hard on nostalgia for that one. It's a classic case of remembering the fun you had rather than how janky it actually played.

Remember playing it split-screen with my brother and we spent more time yelling at the framerate than actually playing... ended up just passing a joint back and forth and laughing at how the textures kept popping in and out.
