The day I figured out I was ruining my old NES cartridges with the blow method
I've been blowing into NES cartridges for like 20 years to make them work. Last week I cleaned one with isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip on a whim - the pins were absolutely black with gunk. Turns out all that blowing was just making the contacts wet and corroding them faster. I checked on YouTube and there's like a million videos showing the actual gold contacts underneath. Has anyone else here wrecked a game doing the blow thing for years?

People do this with a ton of things, not just video games. We all learn one trick that sort of works and then just stick with it forever without ever questioning it. It usually takes someone else showing us a better way for us to finally realize we've been messing stuff up the whole time.

Watched my mom cook rice the same way for years before someone showed her a better method and it blew her mind.

Same with boiling eggs honestly. People learn one way from their parents and never question it until someone else shows up with a game changing trick. It's wild how much time we waste doing things the hard way lol.
