Unpopular opinion: 8-bit game soundtracks from 1990 hit harder than any orchestral score today

I caught my nephew humming the Mega Man 2 Dr. Wily theme and realized those old chiptunes are basically earworms that never die. Does anyone else find the older synth stuff more memorable than modern movie game music?

Blame my old man memory but I legit thought Mega Man 2 came out in 91 until I looked it up last week, lol. Those chiptunes are like brain graffiti though - can't scrub em out no matter how hard you try. Dr. Wily's theme still pops into my head during random meetings and I just have to sit there nodding like I'm thinking about something important.

The 1989 date for Mega Man 2 always throws me off because I remember playing it in the early 90s on a hand-me-down NES. Maybe it's just me, but it explains a lot about how time feels different for different people. Like, @ryanm60, I notice this pattern with old games and movies - a 1999 release feels like "the 90s" but 1989 feels like a whole different world even though it's only ten years apart. I think that's why some people see the 80s as this big block of time while others break it down by year. It's kind of wild how a few years can totally change the feel of a whole decade.
