Always thought dice rolls were random until I broke down the stats on my favorite game

I started logging every dice result in a cooperative dungeon crawler I play twice a week with my group. After 200 rolls, I found out my cheap dice were rolling 1s almost 20 percent more than they should. Turns out, there's a tiny air bubble inside one die throwing off the balance. Has anyone else ever tested their dice to see if they're actually fair?

Six 3s in a row? That's wild, I'd have thrown that dice across the room. I never even thought about testing them in salt water, that sounds like something only a hardcore math nerd would try. Now I'm half tempted to toss my whole dice bag in a bowl of salt water and see what floats.

I started testing my dice after a D&D game where I rolled six 3s in a row with a d20. Put them in a salt water float test and found two of them had tiny bubbles near the 1 and 2 faces. Since then I only buy metal or machined dice from companies that laser check balance. Even the expensive resin sets can be off. It's a total pain when a cheap die secretly works against you. Now I always do the float test on any new set before I use them in a serious game.

Sounds like a dice conspiracy to keep your character humble.
