That one guy at the game store swore I was wrong about deck building in Dominion... he was right and it hurts
I was at Dice House Games in Denver last March and some random dude overheard me complaining that my engine never kicked in fast enough. He told me to stop buying gold on turn three and focus on cantrips and cheap actions instead. I thought he was full of it because I've been playing Dominion since like 2012. But I gave his advice a shot in six games that weekend and won five of them just by cycling through my deck faster. Now I feel like an idiot for hoarding that gold for so long. Has anyone else had a stranger's offhand tip completely remake how you play a game?

Wait, you've been playing Dominion since 2012 and nobody ever told you to skip the gold on turn three? That's practically a rite of passage in that game. I remember a guy at a convention told me the same thing about my deck being too heavy, and I felt like I had been playing wrong for years. It's funny how one little tip can make you rethink everything you thought you knew about a game. Now I can't imagine going back to hoarding gold like some kind of dragon, it just slows everything down.

See that happens in so many parts of life though. Like when I finally learned to stop overcomplicating how I stack firewood or organize my garage. You get so set in your ways thinking more is better, but really it's just dead weight slowing you down. Same with how I used to load up on too many tools for simple home repairs, then realized half of them never got used and just cluttered up the space. Once you get that lightbulb moment about cutting the excess, it makes you look back at how you were doing everything else and wonder what other bad habits you've been dragging around. It's like a mental reset that bleeds into other stuff too, which is kind of wild for a card game lesson.
