I finally called out a crew for skipping the post-weld heat treatment on a 2-inch thick pressure vessel

Saw it last month on a job in Toledo, they were rushing to meet a deadline and figured the weld looked good enough. That's how you get stress cracks and a catastrophic failure down the line, not just a callback. I pulled the foreman aside and showed him the spec sheet that clearly called for it. Who else has had to be the bad guy about proper procedure when the schedule gets tight?

Wait, isn't the real race to the bottom skipping safety steps? Like @jana881 hinted, rushing just sets everyone up to lose later when things fail. Good on you for holding the line on the specs.

What's the rush, trying to win a race to the bottom?
