The $85 magnetic base drill press that saved my butt on a tank job in Tulsa, then quit on the next one
Bought it used at an auction in Tulsa for $85 and it held a perfect line through 40 holes on a boiler shell. Two jobs later the mag base let go mid-drill and I about ate the thing, so now I clamp it no matter what. Anybody else had one of these let go on them?
Two clamps on a 3/4 inch board and it still walked on me last winter, so I'm not sold on clamping being the fix. The real issue is feed rate and a dull blade grabbing the wood, and no clamp stops that. A sharp blade and slow steady push does more than any clamp in my book. Take that with a grain of salt though, I'm no pro.
