Back then, our monthly novel debates felt more real than these online forums.

What made the old debates feel more real to you? Like, was it the people or just how you talked about stuff?

Back then, debates often happened in rooms where you could see someone's face fall if your point hit home. That immediate human reaction kept things honest in a way screens can't. Without a record of every word saved online, people were more willing to change their stance mid talk. The focus was on the idea, not on scoring points for an audience that wasn't even there.

Honestly, are we making too big a deal out of old book club talks? Tbh, those in-person chats could get messy with people talking over each other or feeling pressured to agree. Online, at least everyone gets a turn to type out their thoughts without being interrupted. Saving what we say lets us go back and see if we're making sense instead of just reacting in the moment. Ngl, it's not like one way is totally better than the other.

Yeah gray_hernandez98, the vibe just hit different when you could read the room.
