Our book club debated a banned book last month, half the room flipped
We picked a challenged YA novel and two members who voted against it ended up defending it after discussion. The twist was one person said the debate itself changed their view more than the book did. Has anyone else had a group discussion totally reverse their first take?
Watched this happen at a family dinner where my uncle came in dead set against something and my cousin just asked him questions instead of arguing, and by dessert he'd talked himself into the other side. It shows how much people change when they feel heard instead of attacked, like the fight part of your brain turns off and the thinking part turns on. The book was almost beside the point, the talk itself did the work.
