Our book club split down the middle on a memoir, the 8 to 6 vote surprised me
Last month we read a memoir set in Portland about a chef who opens a food cart after losing his job. I expected everyone to love the redemption angle, but 8 people called it selfish and 6 said it was brave. What stood out to me was that the folks who hated it all had strict schedules, while the fans were more spontaneous. Has anyone else had a book where the reactions lined up with personality types instead of writing quality?

That tracks with my book club too, we read a travel memoir last year and the planners in the group hated how the author just winged everything while the go-with-the-flow folks loved it. Same book, same writing, but people saw the main character's choices through their own life lens. Kind of wild how much our own routines shape what we call a good story lol.
