When the book club skips the book, is it still a book club? Last Tuesday proved my point.
Last Tuesday, 7 of us showed up for our monthly meeting on The Silent Patient. Three people admitted they only read the first 20 pages. By 45 minutes in, we were arguing about a Netflix true crime doc instead. I get that social time matters, but we pay $15 a month to rent a community room for this. So my question is this, where do you draw the line between a book club and a casual hangout that happens to mention books? Has anyone else had their whole discussion derailed by non-readers, or am I the only one who cares about finishing the thing?
