Had a perfect binding day last Tuesday until my sewing frame snapped at 3 PM
Was cruising through a 16th century folio repair, got the signatures all lined up perfect, then the crossbar just gave out and sent thread everywhere - has anyone else had a tool fail at the worst possible moment?

Was it an older frame or a newer one? A crossbar snapping clean like that sounds like maybe a hairline crack you didn't catch, or just bad luck on the wood grain. Had a sewing frame split right down the middle once during a tight back repair, thread tension was fine until it just went. Did you notice any wobble or weird creaking before it gave out, or was it totally out of nowhere?

Oh, that is just awful. I am so sorry that happened to you. It is such a defeating feeling when a piece of equipment gives out on you, especially when you did everything right. I had an old rocking chair arm crack on me once during a simple glue up, for no good reason. It sounds like you might have just gotten a bad piece of wood, which is frustrating because you can't really plan for it. Please don't be too hard on yourself, sometimes these things just happen no matter how careful you are.
