Laid my 500th brick today since starting this patio project back in April
Took me 4 months of weekends in my backyard in Phoenix, but seeing that last corner brick drop in perfectly level made all the sweat and sore knees worth it how long did your first big project take?

lol yeah jana's got the right idea but it's actually the freeze-thaw that'll mess with bricks more than the heat in a place like Phoenix. Monsoon rains just make the ground soft and shift the base, but that's fixable with a quick reset. Honestly, what gets people is when the soil underneath dries out and shrinks over time, leaving gaps for weeds and ants to move in. If you're seeing bricks settle different, it's usually that the base wasn't compacted enough before laying, not the heat itself. Still though, 500 bricks is no joke for weekend work here, that's a solid accomplishment.

Phoenix heat makes that kind of project a whole different beast. You'll want to keep an eye on those bricks for the first few monsoon storms. The ground shifts hard here and a few might settle different than the others. Tamping the base real good before you lay them saves you from having to pull them up later. Good work getting it done though, that's a solid amount of brick for weekends only.
