Tried the mortar hawk trick for laying brick fast, nearly ruined a whole wall
I watched a video about loading mortar on the hawk sideways to speed up my trowel work, tried it Tuesday on a garden wall in Portland and ended up slinging mortar everywhere, took me 3 hours to clean up what should've been a 2 hour job. Anyone else find that shortcut garbage or was it just me being clumsy?

and honestly the whole thing reminds me of how every "life hack" I see online looks smooth in a 30 second clip but falls apart the second you try it with real materials and real deadlines. the trick probably works fine for guys who do this every single day for years, but for the rest of us it's just another way to make a mess and question our own hands. kinda like how I tried folding a fitted sheet from a viral video and ended up with a ball of fabric that looked worse than when I started.
