I finally stopped buying pre-cut veggies after realizing how much I was wasting
A few weeks ago I checked my receipts and realized I'd spent about $30 extra over a month on pre-chopped onions and peppers. Half of them went bad in the fridge because I didn't use them fast enough. Now I just buy whole produce and spend 10 minutes chopping on Sunday. Has anyone else noticed a big difference in their grocery bill after switching to whole veggies?

Yeah, the real hidden cost isn't just the markup on pre-cut stuff but the fact you're paying for water weight that evaporates in a day. Whole onions and peppers last weeks in a cool drawer, so you actually get what you paid for. It's wild how much cheaper eating whole produce is once you factor in less spoilage.

Heard a nutritionist on a podcast say the same thing, she called pre-cut veggies "convenience food with a built-in tax." She broke down how a bag of pre-cut onion is like 30% water you're paying for that just sits in the fridge and gets sad. I started buying whole broccoli heads instead of those florets in a bag, and honestly I get an extra meal out of each one cause the stems roast up nice too. Same with carrots, whole ones in a bag last forever in the crisper, but those baby-cut ones get slimy in like three days. It's one of those things where the math just doesn't add up once you actually pay attention.
