My aunt swore by the "freeze your rice" trick, I thought she was nuts

She said cook a big batch on Sunday, freeze it in bags. I told her frozen rice gets mushy. Tried it anyway last month with a 5 pound bag of jasmine. Thawed some for stir fry Tuesday and it came out perfect, better than fresh. Saved me $12 a week not buying those instant packets. Has anyone else had luck with freezing other grains like quinoa or farro?

Does the freeze trick work with something like brown rice or wild rice? I tried it with a batch of red quinoa and it turned into a gluey mess, so I'm wondering if the grain type changes the result.

Brown rice has more fiber so it usually survives freezing better than quinoa lol.

lol "survives freezing better" really made me laugh because one time I froze a big batch of wild rice I made and it literally looked like something that crawled out of a swamp when I thawed it. It was still edible but man it lost all its charm. I think the hull or whatever holds up differently depending on the grain. Brown rice is tougher so it can take the cold and come back okay but quinoa is delicate and gets that weird slimy thing you mentioned. My sister swears by freezing farro though and that stuff actually comes out pretty good so maybe try that instead of fighting with quinoa.
