My neighbor's one comment changed how I prep beans forever
I used to soak pinto beans overnight and still got some crunchy ones in my chili. My neighbor Ray, who cooks for his crew of 12 on a ranch outside Abilene, saw me dumping a bag in water and said 'you're wasting time, just boil them hard for 2 minutes then let them sit for an hour.' I tried it last Tuesday for a big pot of burrito filling and it worked way better, plus saved me from remembering to start the night before. Now I'm wondering if the same trick works for other dried beans like chickpeas or black beans, or if those need their own timing. Anyone else got a shortcut that beats the soak method?
