I dropped $20 on a reusable water filter bottle in Bangkok and it paid for itself in 3 days

I was buying plastic water bottles every time I left my hostel, spending like $2-3 a day. Picked up a LifeStraw Go bottle at a 7-Eleven for $20 and just filled it from hostel taps. Saved me from buying 30+ bottles over two weeks. Anyone else use filter bottles in places where tap water is iffy?

That line about it paying for itself in 3 days really hit home. I had the same experience in India a few years back with a Grayl bottle and was shocked how fast the math worked out. The hostel tap water gave me a little pause at first, but after a week of using it I barely thought about it. It feels good to not be drowning in plastic waste and extra expense on a trip.

Have you seen that study from a few years back about microplastics in bottled water? Really made me think twice about buying plastic bottles while traveling. @the_susan you hit on a good point with the Grayl bottle, those things are solid too. On my last trip I just grabbed a cheap filter bottle from a local shop in Vietnam and it worked fine for me, saved a ton of cash and cut down on all that trash.

Yeah, that microplastics study was my wakeup call too. Nothing like chugging down a handful of plastic particles with your fancy spring water to ruin the experience. Guess I'll stick with the cheap filter bottle and save the money for actual souvenirs instead.
