Overpacked for a 4-day Iceland trip, lost $120 on a second bag
I flew to Reykjavik in March and packed for every possible weather scenario, then the airline hit me with a $120 overweight fee at check-in. Half that stuff, like the snow boots and the extra fleece, stayed untouched in my hostel locker the whole time because the forecast actually held steady. Do you guys pack light and rent gear on site, or do you still take the kitchen sink approach like I did?
Feel you, that $120 stings way more than the unused gear. I've done the same thing and now I just check the forecast once and trust it, renting anything crazy on the spot.
