People are still paying for airport water in 2024 and it's wild

I was at O'Hare last week and watched a guy in line at a kiosk buy a $6 bottle of water. The security line was right there, and he'd just come through. I've been doing this for years, but I guess it's not common knowledge: take an empty bottle through security and fill it up at a fountain. I counted five free water stations in my terminal alone. That $6 is a whole meal at some street food spots, or bus fare across town. I've saved probably $200 on water alone over my trips. It's such a simple switch, but I see people with the overpriced bottles every single time I fly. What's another airport money trap you've noticed that's easy to avoid?

The real trap is the airport lounge day pass. They sell it for like 50 bucks, but your credit card might already get you in for free. I checked mine last year and found out I had access, and I'd been paying for years. Always check your card benefits before you travel.

My friend's Chase Sapphire card got her into the lounge in Denver last month with no extra fee.

Some cards even give you free guests, so you can bring a friend without paying extra.
