Turns out, my breakfast routine saved me a ton on my trip

I used to eat out for every meal while traveling, which got expensive fast. Now, I bring instant oatmeal packets and buy local fruit from markets (it's super fresh and cheap). This way, I have a filling breakfast for under a dollar most days. It frees up my budget for a nice dinner out sometimes. Give it a try if you're looking to save on food costs!

Haha, I'd still find a way to spend it all on coffee.

On my trip to Chicago, I was spending $15 each morning on diner food. I used to think that was just how travel worked, but your idea changed my mind. Now I pack oatmeal and grab local fruit, saving enough for better meals later.

That idea about packing oatmeal and grabbing local fruit is spot on. I read a travel blog once that called breakfast the "low hanging fruit" for saving money on trips, no pun intended. The writer said that in most cities, you can find a grocery store or a market within a few blocks of hotels where fruit and snacks cost way less. It lets you splurge on a great local lunch or dinner without feeling guilty about the budget.
