Walked into a dollar store and saw people buying name brand snacks

I was picking up some cleaning supplies at Family Dollar on Tuesday and watched a woman grab three bags of Doritos for $5 each. Right next to them was the store brand for $1.25 a bag. She could have saved over $11 on chips alone. Do people just not look at the price tags or do they think the name brand actually tastes that much better?

Maybe they don't realize how much those few dollars add up over time.

But those few dollars add up over time" - who's really responsible here though? Is it on the person giving small amounts to make sure they're saving properly, or should the system itself be doing more to protect folks who don't realize they're bleeding money? In my experience, most people just don't stop and do the math until it's way too late.

I feel like @jamie804 has a point though, it's not that simple.
