Had to pick between Facebook ads and a local newspaper ad for our grand opening
We were launching a new warehouse supply store in Toledo last spring and had $500 budgeted for marketing. I figured a half page in the local paper would reach all the small business owners in town. My partner pushed hard for Facebook ads targeting logistics managers within 20 miles. I went with the newspaper because my dad swore by it. 3 weeks in and we got maybe 4 calls from the paper ad. The Facebook guy ran a $50 test on his own and got 23 leads in one weekend. Now I'm the one who gets roasted at every team meeting. Anyone else get burned by thinking old school was the safe bet?
Tbh my buddy runs a small landscaping crew and he said the same thing about their local paper. He still pays for it just to keep the high school scores in the paper, but he knows nobody under 50 even opens it.
