Overheard a vendor at a networking event say 'stop selling features'

Last month I was at a small business mixer in Austin and caught this guy in a suit telling someone to stop talking about what their product does. He said nobody cares about features unless you lead with the problem they solve first. I took that to heart and rewrote my landing page over the weekend. Has anyone else tried shifting their pitch to pure problem first?

I mean that "problem first" thing only works if the problem actually pisses people off enough to spend money on it. Maybe try asking strangers if they'd pay $20 to fix their pain before you rebuild your whole site.

Did you ever try asking people before you built anything? I did that with a little project I had, just went to a local coffee shop and asked folks if they'd pay me $10 to solve a specific thing they complained about. Turns out most said no, but the few that said yes pointed me in a way better direction. Saved me months of work on stuff nobody wanted. Your mileage may vary, but it's worth a shot before you sink time into a full rebuild.

Did you check if the problem they're pitching solves something people actually pay to fix or just complain about?
