My old boss in Sacramento said plywood was fine for face frames, and it cost me a $3,200 redo
Back when I was doing production work at a shop off Power Inn Road, my lead guy swore plywood face frames were the way to go because they were cheaper and faster. I built 14 upper cabinets for a kitchen in Carmichael with 3/4 ply frames and pocket screws holding them together. Six months later every joint on three doors had opened up and the homeowner called me back to fix it on my own dime. I spent $3,200 on new maple stock and a full weekend tearing those boxes apart. Now I only use solid stock for frames, no matter what anyone tells me to save a buck. Anybody here ever get talked into a shortcut that backfired this bad?
