Customer's pet chihuahua ate my coax line, then blamed me for the outage
Out on a service call in Arlington last Thursday, I walk up to the box and find this tiny dog chewing on the drop line like it's a toy. The lady comes out screaming about her internet being down for two days and points at me, telling me I'm late. I showed her the teeth marks and the chewed shielding, and she still tried to argue her dog 'never does that.' I ended up replacing about 15 feet of cable on their dime, but the whole time the dog was growling at me from the porch. Has anyone else dealt with an animal causing the damage but the customer refusing to accept it?
Honestly, I used to be the guy who gave customers the benefit of the doubt on stuff like this. I figured maybe a squirrel chewed it or it was just weather damage, and the dog got blamed. But then I had a pug literally yank a fiber line off a house while the owner watched and still told me it was my company's fault for not burying it deep enough. So when you say she pointed at you like you're the problem, I get it. I've had that same stare, and it's wild how a five pound animal can cause a hundred dollars in damage and somehow you're the bad guy. Now I just take photos of the damage before I even touch anything, because people will swear on their mom's life their pet is an angel until they see the bite marks right next to the quote.
