Had a Canon 5D mirror box lock up on me mid-repair yesterday

I was swapping the shutter assembly on this 2008 model and the mirror just froze halfway, wouldn't budge. Took me about an hour to gently work it free with some isopropyl and a plastic spudger. Anyone have a better method for dealing with a sticky mirror mechanism on these older DSLRs?

Oh man, I read somewhere that a tiny drop of clock oil can work wonders on those old hinges...

Used to think WD-40 was the only answer for a squeaky door. Then a guy at the hardware store mentioned clock oil, like patricia262 said. Tried it on an old cabinet hinge that sounded like a dying animal. The stuff is so thin it gets right in there without the mess. That cabinet door swings silent now, like it's brand new.

Yeah, patricia262 is right, but that thin oil can dry out faster than WD-40.
