Just had a guy bring in a Nikon F3 with a shutter issue he'd tried to fix himself using YouTube videos
Dude used a flathead screwdriver on a JIS screw and stripped it so bad I had to drill it out, now I'm never touching those cheap amazon repair kits again, anyone else have horror stories from DIY attempts?

I just bought a JIS screwdriver set off eBay and haven't stripped a camera screw since.

Those YouTube repair "experts" always skip the part about JIS screws being different from Phillips. Real shame too because those F3s are tanks when they work right.

Wait, wait, wait. So those JIS screws are actually a different threading standard than a standard Phillips? I always just jammed a Phillips in there and wondered why it stripped out every single time. That honestly explains so much about why my F3 repair took three hours longer than those YouTube videos showed.
