Shoutout to the old timer at the swap meet who said something about film advance gears

He was selling a busted Nikon FM2 and told me he stopped fixing them because the parts are just too brittle now. Said 'you can't make a 40 year old plastic gear act like new, kid' and it stuck with me. How do you guys handle telling a customer their classic camera is basically a donor body?

Told a guy his Minolta's film door latch was made of unobtainium. I laid the broken piece next to a working one so he could see the difference. Explained it wasn't about skill, but about stuff that doesn't exist anymore. He ended up buying it as a parts donor anyway.

Plastic just ages out. Sometimes the truth hurts but it's better than wasting their money.

That plastic just turns to dust.
