Dropped $180 on a '4 season' tent that leaked in a light drizzle in Shenandoah
Bought it last spring for a trip in Shenandoah and the rain fly soaked through in under 20 minutes, so my sleeping bag was wet by 11pm. Turns out the seam tape was already peeling when I unboxed it and I just didn't look close enough. Has anyone else had a tent fail on the first trip, and did you bother returning it or just eat the loss?
Man, the same thing happened to me with a Kelty I grabbed off Amazon for $160. First night out in Dolly Sods and the fly was basically a sponge, water was dripping on my face by 1am. I checked the seams the next morning and the tape was curling up like old tape on a box, no idea how it passed whatever quality check they pretend to do. I drove home mad and tried to return it, but they wanted me to ship it back on my own dime, which was like $25, so I just kept it. Now it lives in my garage as a loaner for friends I don't like that much.
