Shoutout to my botched trip for a key review tip

Gear specs lie. Real-world testing is the only truth.

Remember when specs seemed legit? That trip taught me to always test things myself.

Specs are just marketing's best guess these days.

My 2018 hiking boots were rated for 500 miles, but the sole split clean off at 120. I called the company and they read the same spec sheet back to me like a prayer. Now I wear new boots around the house for a week before I even think about a trail. You just can't trust the numbers they print.

Yeah, learned that the hard way when my "waterproof" bag turned into a mobile swimming pool. The brochure didn't show my stuff floating. Guess that's the premium soggy experience they left out of the specs.
