Wrote off the $8 foam sleeping pad for 3 years, then a buddy in Flagstaff made me try his
I always figured the cheap blue foam pads were junk because everybody online pushes the $150 inflatable ones. My buddy handed me his spare on a trip near Flagstaff in April and I slept better on it than my expensive pad. The thing weighs almost nothing, never leaks, and I can toss it on rocks without worrying. Three nights in the low 30s and my back felt fine every morning. Anybody else gone back to foam after years of dealing with inflatable pads that pop?
I read a gear review a while back where the guy said he ditched his inflatable after one too many midnight patches. Been thinking about that ever since. Foam just works, no waking up on the ground at 2am.
