Dropped $45 on a fold up speaker for my campus free speech event, and the counter protest was quieter than I planned
Bought it at a Best Buy in Columbus last month and it carried my voice over about 40 people on the quad without a permit issue. Anyone else find cheap gear actually works better at these things than the school's $500 AV setup?
Man, the permit thing is what I really want to know more about. Did campus cops actually roll up on you at any point, or did they just leave you alone the whole time? I keep hearing mixed stuff about whether you even need a permit for a small thing on the quad, and it seems like it totally depends on the school. Also curious how loud that speaker actually got, like were you able to talk over the counter protest or did you just kinda coexist? And did the thing hold a charge through the whole event or did it die halfway? $45 is nothing compared to what the school charges for their setup, so if it worked that's a steal. Fill me in on the details.
