Warning: That admin who told me to 'just ignore the protestors' made it way worse

My dean at Ohio State told me last Tuesday to walk right through the Gaza solidarity encampment and pretend they weren't there. Got caught on a livestream looking like a total jerk, and now I have 200 angry emails in my inbox. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from administrators about how to handle campus protests?

Whoa hold up, your dean actually told you to walk right through the middle of a protest and just ignore people? That's insane. Like did they think you were invisible or something? That's the kind of advice that gets you roasted on every campus feed for the rest of the semester. I can just picture you trying to stare straight ahead while people are chanting and holding signs right in your face. Honestly your dean should have just told you to go around the block or take a different path, not march through like you own the place.

Seriously though, what was the dean thinking? Did they think protesters would just part like the Red Sea if you had a backpack and a coffee in your hand? It's like telling someone to walk through a mosh pit because it's the fastest way to the bathroom. I bet you felt like you were in one of those video games where you have to dodge everything while keeping a straight face. Probably would've been easier to just take the long way and avoid the whole awkward parade.
