Can we talk about how cancel culture hits different when it's a local business?

I watched a bakery in my town get torn apart online last month over an old social media post from 2018. The owner posted something dumb about politics, nothing hateful just ignorant. People dug it up, screenshotted it, and within a week the shop had a 1 star rating bomb with 200 reviews. I drove by yesterday and there's a for lease sign in the window. That place had been open for 15 years. What bothers me is the punishment didn't fit the mistake, and there was no chance for a real conversation. Has anyone else seen a small business get wrecked like this unfairly?

I mean "there was no chance for a real conversation" really hit home for me. What finally worked was reaching out to a few of the loudest critics privately and just calmly asking what they wanted to see happen.

Yeah that's a solid move. People usually calm down and talk straight when you take it private instead of keeping it in a public war.
