Stumbled on a stat about how many canceled people came back within 5 years

Ngl I was reading a study from the American Press Institute that said around 40% of public figures who got 'canceled' in the 2010s are back in the spotlight by now. Found it on a news site last night and it made me wonder if the whole thing is just a temporary speed bump for most folks.

Yeah but the thing is, what counts as 'back' though? Like do they mean back as in working again or back as in the same level of fame and money they had before? Cause I feel like coming back to a smaller podcast circuit or a niche Substack is way different than getting your prime time show back. Would be curious if that 40% stat includes people who just quietly returned to regular jobs or if they actually got their whole career back. Seems like the definition might be doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

Drew a hard line myself when I got hit with a similar "comeback" situation after some personal stuff blew up. Told myself I was back when I could pay my bills and sleep at night, not when I got my old reputation back. That 40% stat probably counts anyone who's working again in any capacity, even if it's way smaller than before. Most people don't really get the whole package back, they just find a new version of working that fits. From what I've seen, the ones who treat "back" like it means the same exact thing as before end up quitting again real quick.
