My old boss in Austin told me to never take a counteroffer, and man, was he right about that.

Oh man, that advice is solid gold. I learned the hard way once, felt so flattered they wanted to keep me that I said yes. Big mistake. The trust was totally gone, and they just saw me as a flight risk from then on. They gave me the worst jobs and watched me like a hawk until I quit anyway a few months later. It was such a bad vibe, never again. Your old boss gave you the good stuff.

Guess they wanted to keep you just long enough to make you miserable.

Yeah, I read somewhere that accepting a counteroffer can mess with the power balance. They might keep you around just long enough to replace you on their own terms. Honestly, it just seems like a short term fix for a bigger problem.
