I got stuck at a farmer's market in Asheville because they only took cards

My local library book sale went card-only last year. They said handling cash for thousands of used books was a huge security risk and took too much volunteer time to count. It feels odd buying a 50 cent paperback with a card, like the fee must eat their profit.

Dropped $300 on a sous vide circulator and it's gathering dust in my pantry

Spot the same thing with fancy coffee gear. People buy pour-over sets with scales and timers, then realize they just want a hot drink without a whole routine. It's that gap between the ideal of a perfect result and the reality of a busy Tuesday night. Does your instant pot win because it cuts out the performance part of cooking?

Hot take: My worst week ever started with a client bringing her own 'medical grade' serum to our facial.

Used to think a signed waiver was enough to cover it. Then a guy brought his own "all natural" oil blend for a massage, said it was fine. Broke out in hives on his back, and suddenly it was my fault for not stopping him. Now the policy is clear, no outside products at all, not even a hand cream. The talk happens before they even get in the chair.

Had a real scare with a hidden flue liner tear last week

That 1920s brickwork hiding a tear is a nightmare. Honestly, a six inch rip in stainless steel behind a mortar bulge is the kind of thing you only find by pure luck. I've had brushes catch on broken tile edges before, but never metal shavings from the liner itself.

I read that a deepfake of a CEO's voice tricked a UK energy firm into sending $243,000

But isn't that just a new kind of acting?
