My apprentice argued with me about using a 4-foot level for everything
Honestly, I was showing him how to plumb a door frame in this new build in Franklin, and he straight up said 'Why not just use a laser for the whole wall and check the level with your 2-footer as you go?' Tbh, it made me pause because I've always just grabbed the big level out of habit, but maybe he's onto something about speed without losing quality. How many of you guys have switched to lasers for basic layout and only break out the long levels for final checks?

My buddy's crew switched to lasers and their trim work got way faster.

It's like when everyone got those key finder beepers. The tech is cool and saves time, but you still gotta check your pocket for your keys before you leave the house. The laser is the beeper, the level is the pocket check.

That "final checks" idea is the key part. A laser gets you close, but a long level on the finished surface is the only way to confirm true plumb before you call it done.
