Appreciation post for the old seam tape
Been 12 years in the trade, and watching guys use iron-on tape on high twist carpets drives me nuts. Has anyone else noticed more callbacks from seams curling up because of that shortcut?

Respect the point you're making, but I see it a bit differently. The old tape had its own problems - it was finicky about temperature and humidity, and if you rushed the iron you'd get a peel anyway. @the_sam might be right that shortcuts aren't always bad, sometimes a product just gets improved to be more forgiving for guys working nine hours straight.

Is it just me or does that shortcut mentality show up everywhere these days, not just in our trade? I see people trying to skip steps with everything from cooking to fixing their own cars, and it always ends up costing more time and money in the long run. The old tape took a little longer, but it worked right the first time, same as most things that haven't been "improved" into being worse.
