I finally figured out a better way to handle those tricky angled doorways

Last Tuesday, I was finishing a job in a 1920s house in Springfield, and the last bedroom had this crazy 45-degree doorway into a closet. I used to just cut the carpet and try to tuck it, but it always looked messy. This time, I made a paper template of the whole angle first, transferred it to the carpet, and cut it with a brand new Olfa knife. The fit was perfect on the first try. How do you guys handle weird angles like that?

Always thought templates were a waste of time for small cuts. Figured it was faster to just measure and go for it. Your post made me try it on a weird bay window area last week. The paper trick was a total game changer, got a clean line I didn't have to fix. I'm officially a convert now.

Tried that once with cardboard for a weird outlet... never going back to guessing again.

Yeah, that paper trick really does change everything, doesn't it?
