My bank locked my account on a Friday afternoon and I was stranded in Portand

I was at a gas station in Portland, Oregon last November trying to fill up for a trip home, and my debit card got declined. Turns out the bank flagged a $12 convenience store purchase as suspicious and froze everything, no way to reach anyone until Monday. Has anyone else had a bank freeze their access over something this small?

Honestly I used to roll my eyes at people who complained about bank security stuff. I was always like just plan ahead keep a backup card whatever. But then last year I was at a grocery store in a different state visiting my sister. Bought like $8 worth of snacks and a soda and boom my card got flagged. It was a Saturday so nobody at the bank could help until Monday either. I had like $2 in cash and no way to get gas or food. Totally changed my mind. Now I keep a little emergency cash hidden in my car and I tell everyone to do the same because banks really don't care if you're stranded over a dumb sandwich purchase.

Oh man, I feel this. I once got locked out of my own bank account for buying a single energy drink in the next town over, wound up eating gas station hot dogs for three days. You ever have to call your bank from a payphone to beg them to let you buy a sandwich?
