Noticed the produce at our town market is totally different now
I remember when the market had mostly local veggies. Now it's all shipped in from far away. This makes it harder to plan seasonal menus. For example, last week I wanted heirloom tomatoes, but they were from another country. It changes how I teach my apprentices about freshness. I miss the days when you could taste the soil in the carrots. Still, we adapt and find new ways to source locally.
My buddy tried growing tomatoes in pots on his balcony last year. He watered them every day and even talked to them, which we all made fun of. The plants grew huge but never made a single tomato, just these weird empty green shells. He was so mad he almost threw the whole pot off the balcony. Sometimes you just can't win with plants no matter what you do.
