Typing on a Motorola Razr vs typing on an iPhone

I used to blaze through texts on a flip phone with T9 predictive text in 2006, hitting 60 words a minute with just my thumbs. Now I swipe on a touchscreen and still autocomplete weird words like 'quixotic' when I meant 'quick.' Did the switch to glass slabs actually make us slower typists, or is it just me getting old?

Did you catch that one study a while back showing T9 users actually had fewer typos than modern swipers? I remember reading it and thinking, well, there goes my excuse for sending "ducking" instead of "ducking.

I see what you're getting at with that study, but I remember it differently - I think it compared T9 to tapping on a regular keyboard, not swiping, and swiping can be surprisingly accurate once you get the muscle memory down.

My cousin works at a phone repair shop and he says people come in all the time with screens cracked from angrily swiping at autocorrect. He told me last week a guy threw his phone against a wall because it kept changing "wedding" to "weeding" while texting his fiance. Makes me wonder if T9's slow pace actually saved people from breaking their phones.
