TIL my 2010 Prius has saved me over 13,000 gallons of gas compared to my old F-150

I did the math this morning while waiting for a tire rotation. I traded in my 1998 F-150 back in 2010 when gas hit $4 a gallon here in Phoenix. The truck got maybe 12 mpg on a good day. The Prius averages 48 mpg according to the dashboard. Over 180,000 miles that works out to like, a lot of gallons not burned. My neighbor just bought a new F-150 and I mentioned my numbers. He didn't say anything just kind of stared at his truck. Has anyone else run these kind of numbers on their old vs new vehicles?

My old Tacoma got like 15 mpg so I always figured hybrids were just a way to pay more upfront. But 13,000 gallons is wild, I never actually thought of it that way. Maybe it's just me but that kind of math kinda makes me wanna look at a Prius now.

Have you looked at how much time you'd save too? Like with a regular gas car you're stopping every 300 miles to fill up, but a Prius can go like 500+ miles on a tank. Over a decade that's probably weeks of your life not sitting at a gas station. Tacomas are awesome trucks but they're also rolling anchors once gas prices spike.

Is saving that much time really worth driving a Prius though? I mean @davidkim makes a solid point but man I'd miss having a truck bed.
