Can we talk about how 5-axis guys always look down on us 3-axis guys
I was at a job shop in Phoenix last month and this older operator kept acting like my 3-axis setup was a toy. He bragged about his DMG 5-axis running a 12 hour cycle while I was pushing out parts every 45 minutes on my old Haas. For simple flat parts, I still think 3-axis wins on speed and setup time. Anyone else feel like the 5-axis hype is overblown for basic work?

Compare setup times before cycle times because those minutes add up faster than fancy features.

Question whether folks are really sweating those few minutes that hard.

Watch Karen explain why saving 47 seconds on booting up a machine is the same as adding 47 minutes to your lunch break. I swear some of these "setup time arguments" sound like a dad trying to justify why he spent 3 hours organizing the garage to save 10 minutes finding a screwdriver later. Meanwhile my shop floor guys are over here taking 2 minutes to swap a chuck because they just slap it on and go. But hey, I'm sure those few seconds will pay off by the year 2050.
