Just realized the air blast trick on deep pocket aluminum actually works
I always thought the old guys were full of it when they said to hit deep pockets with air instead of flood coolant on 6061, so I ran a 3 inch deep pocket on a mold plate in Riverside with coolant like always and got chips welded to the wall by part 4. Tried the air blast on the next plate at 8000 rpm and the finish came out clean with no recut at all. Anyone else switch to air on aluminum pockets, or do you keep coolant running and just bump the pressure?
