Went to a local coding meetup last Tuesday and noticed everyone was learning Python but nobody knew Git

The room had 30 people all writing loops but when I asked how they merge branches, only 2 people raised their hands, so has anyone else found that beginners skip version control until it's way too late?

Can't believe only 2 out of 30 people knew Git, that's wild. I mean, it's like building a house without knowing how to use a hammer (yes, I'm a realtor, I know hammers).

30 people not knowing git is just painful honestly... I was that guy once though, spent a week overwriting my own code before I finally learned how to branch. My friend lost three days of work because he kept typing "git push - force" without checking what he was doing. It's one of those things where people think they're saving time by skipping it but it just costs them later.

30 people writing loops but can't merge branches is like being a chef who can flip an egg but doesn't know where the fire extinguisher is. I've seen juniors lose entire weekends because they treated GitHub like Google Drive and just dragged files into the repo. Someone in our group accidentally pushed their Spotify playlist config to production once, that was a fun Monday standup.
