Appreciation post: The old community pot at the diner where I worked felt more welcoming than my solo pour-over routine ever does.

That bit about the community pot feeling more welcoming is so true. I see this pattern everywhere now, where doing things by yourself feels quick but lonely. We get all these ways to make great coffee alone, but we miss out on talking and sharing time. It's not just about coffee, it's how so many daily tasks have turned into solo jobs. It makes me want back the messy, group stuff that really brings people together.

Maybe try a weekly coffee meetup with neighbors.

Totally get what you mean about the messy group stuff lol. Danielthomas is onto something with the coffee idea, it's that simple shared time that matters. My old place had awful board game nights but I miss them so much now.

Remember my old apartment building tried a shared soup night, kinda like what @danielthomas said but for food. Honestly, we'd all just throw whatever veg we had into one big pot on Sundays. Tbh, it was never amazing soup, but arguing about if it needed more salt with my neighbor Linda was the best part. Ngl, my own cooking now is technically better, but it's just me eating it quietly. Makes you miss the messy group stuff for sure.
